A Star Wars Party: Elijah's Fifth Birthday Party

This year for Elijah's birthday, he wanted a Star Wars party. I was so excited because first off, I LOVE STAR WARS. In fact we already had our costumes for the party because that was our Halloween costume family theme! Second, I KNEW that I could make an awesome party. There are so many cool things you can do with that theme. Lastly, because we are putting the house on the market, this was likely the last party that our family would throw at this home. It had to be a good one! And what better way to close this chapter than to celebrate that amazing little boy that made my dreams come true!

The Decorations and Food

I had so much fun planning this party! I love throwing theme parties, especially for my boys. And I found so many neat ideas on pinterest!Yup, we are a Pinterest family!  It needs to be said that the party would not have been as awesome and cool without the help of my partner in crime. Tony was amazing. In the days leading up to a big party, I always get stressed and anxious, and Tony did an incredible job not only helping me and sending me to bed the night before, while staying up himself and putting finishing touches on the decor. He also calmed me and helped me stay focused and not worry so much. And thank you to Chip for keeping the kiddos the night before so that not only could we get everything done and fully focus on the project at hand, but so that the boys didn't see the party until everything was done and I got to see the look on their faces when they walked into the house that was transformed into "a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away". Priceless. And the main reason I insist on these parties. The look on those tiny faces.

A special thank you to Monique Foreman for capturing the moments with her fabulous pictures. You can see more of Monique's work or contact her about a shoot at http://amomentintimephotographybymonique.zenfolio.com/

Another special thank you to Kimberlee Smyth Moayed who is now our family's cake lady! She knocked it out of the park at the twins birthday party and created a perfect center piece cake for Elijah's Star Wars Party. You can find her work and contact her about cakes and party planning at

Our dining area converted into the resting place of the ultimate galactic weapon: The Death Star. Which doubled as a pinata later in the day.

The life size storm troopers were a huge hit! My dear friend Jesse wanted to contribute to the party. He adores my boys and called to ask if he could help with Elijah's party. He made the storm troopers possible. The storm tripper balloons kept "walking" around the party. Seriously. They kept moving on their on. It was cool. And a little creepy.

I found a pool float that was the Millennium Falcon! Tony found the perfect spot to hang it!

Truth.

Our family tradition of the birthday montage looping in the background, celebrating five years (and a 39 week pregnancy) of Elijah.

Tony found this cool vintage poster when he was working in Roundtop and picked it up as one of Elijah's gifts. My mother had the idea of putting up a tribute to Carrie Fisher aka Princess Leia.

One of the two Storm Troopers we had walking around the party.

Some of the themed desserts we created!

Storm Trooper Cupcakes

May The Forks Be With You and Han Solo Cups

My car visor made an excellent back drop for our spread!

Chip made another fabulous watermelon creation. Yoda!

For drinks we had Yoda Soda and Vaderade

Han in Carbonite Jello

The fabulous cake creation by Kimberlee!

The Costumes

I love that so many of our friend and family joined us in dressing up! It made the party so much more festive! The hit of the party was Tony's brother, Ryan dressing up as Darth Vader! It was so cool. All the costumes were so much fun and Elijah had a big smile on his face every time a new character walked in. Elijah was also Darth Vader. Though he received a stormtrooper costume as a gift and did a wardrobe change halfway through the party.

The Party
The party was great. It was everything I had envisioned and Elijah loved every bit of it. Elijah was surrounded by so many of the people that he adores and that adore him and seeing him surrounded by so much love was exactly what I had hoped for him for that day.

The Grand Finale
The last thing we did at the party....and it was last because I completely forgot all about it until most of the guests had left, was the break the pinata! The kiddos that were left thoroughly enjoyed the Death Star pinata! And so appropriate that Darth Vader held the string.

Getting geared up to bust that pinata open.
